Yes it’s April’s Fools Day, because Westminster Council have now posted a small printed notice in a plastic bag on a post outside St. Philips Medical Centre.  This is the public announcement informing of the LSE application to demolish the St. Philips building.  The claimed date for this notice is the 29th March which means that there are 21 days from then to lodge objections to the plan, i.e. the 19th April is the deadline.

This is URGENT please object  NOW! >>>

To oppose this immediately:

1- Go to the following link and place your objection online:

http://www3.westminster.gov.uk/planningapplications/currentsearch-details.cfm?CASENO=10%2F01618%2FCAC

2- If you would like to voice your objection in writing, contact Sue Brown at the address below, quoting 10/01617/FULL, your name and your full address:

While you may oppose the proposal on any grounds, the planning committee will only make their decision based upon planning issues such as:

  • the loss of a valued local service (i.e health centre)

  • the impact on amenity, such as noise and disruption caused by the proposal

  •  the appearance, bulk height and enviornmental impact of the buidling in the Srand Conservation Area, etc.

The planning applications submitted by the LSE to Westminster council have now been validated. A determination date has now been set for the 21st June 2010.

There are two planning applications concerning this site and therefore if you intend to submit your own letter of objection, both need to be quoted.

Details of the planning applications can be found at:

The Planning Officer dealing with this case has been named as SUE BROWN from the South Area Planning Team (02076415033).

Yesterday I called and spoke with Ms. Brown informing her that I was a member of staff from the medical centre housed within the building and asked whether I could seek advice from her. She was shocked to hear that an NHS surgery was located at this site and had not been informed of its existence and involvement with the case by the LSE. I was told that the matter will now be taken very seriously. I am trying to track down further details from the planning applications (which I will add to this site) and also await Ms. Brown’s visit to the building.

This site has been set up to provide information regarding the potential demolition of the St. Philips Building. We can also provide you with ways in which to oppose the planning application and halt/delay the liquidation of this NHS practice.

Further information can be found on the ‘Under Threat’ section but in brief, the London School of Economics are planning to destruct the current St. Philips Buildings and replace it with a modern New Students’ Centre. A medical centre has not been included within the plans and therefore this valued service will be removed from the students and numerous local residents. We currently have not received any definite assurances that we will be relocated elsewhere. Therefore, it is our only option to oppose the planning application and fight for the preservation of our medical centre.

We will be updating frequently to report any developments in the situation and also inform you of ways in which you can help us oppose the planning application.
